This type of Rawlbolt consists of a malleable iron shield assembly with a built-in-expander nut and a detachable 4.6 grade hexagon bolt. When the bolt is inserted in the shield it engages the expander nut, and tightening it draws the nut up to expand the segments of the shield and grip the base material. Especially suitable when the bolt needs to be inserted after the shield has been positioned, e.g. where heavy equipment has to be located over the shield socket so that the bolt can be dropped through.
